Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, born in 1917, is a disciple of Swami Brahmananda Sarasvati and lived with him until his death. At the request and suggestion of his Master, Maharishi developed a simple spiritual technique known as Transcendental Meditation in the 1950s
This technique is said to enable a person to effortlessly reach a 4th state of consciousness, which is different from waking, sleeping and dreaming and is pure, unbounded being, by mentally refining a mantra. Maharishi has been teaching mainly in the West since 1959.
