The wisdom stories compiled here in a commented reading and textbook come from living tradition. The constant concern of their tradition is the constantly rediscovered, reformulated and thus revitalized essence of Buddhist teachings. Stories about the lives of enlightened masters can truly encourage and inspire. Their exemplary character is accompanied by subtle and often thunderous humor, equipped with the magic that knows how to expose hypocrisy and spiritual materialism. The Tibetan people have always loved them especially: holy fools, refreshing mahasiddhas and master yogis such as Milarepa and Drugpa Künleg with their "crazy wisdom" as well as inspiring dakinis. Finally, the so-called miracles must not be neglected: deities, cloud fairies and even demons are portrayed as no less realistic than normal people, because from a tantric perspective, everything is part of the one, interconnected reality.

Sylvia Luetjohann studied literature and cultural studies in Frankfurt/Main, worked as a librarian, bookseller, publisher and is now a freelance translator, editor and author with a focus on Eastern philosophy and naturopathy. Since 1976, the theory and practice of Tibetan Buddhism, especially in the Kagyu and Nyingma traditions, has been an essential aspect of her life.
