The wisdom stories compiled here into an annotated reading and textbook come from lived tradition. The constant concern of their transmission is the essence of Buddhist teaching, which is always rediscovered, reformulated and thus revitalised. Stories about the lives of enlightened masters can truly encourage and inspire. Their exemplary character is accompanied by humour that is as subtle as it is often thunderous, endowed with that magic that knows how to unmask hypocrisy and spiritual materialism. The Tibetan people have always loved them in particular: holy jesters, refreshing mahasiddhas and masterful yogis like Milarepa and Drugpa Künleg with their "crazy wisdom" as well as inspiring dakinis. Finally, the so-called miracles must not be neglected: Deities, cloud fairies and even demons are depicted no less real than ordinary people, because from a tantric point of view, everything is part of the one reality that is connected with everything.

Sylvia Luetjohann studied literature and cultural studies in Frankfurt/Main, worked as a librarian, bookseller, publisher and is now a freelance translator, editor and author with a focus on Eastern philosophy and naturopathy. Since 1976, the theory and practice of Tibetan Buddhism, especially in the Kagyu and Nyingma traditions, has been an essential aspect of her life.
